How to Use Real Musical Instruments with GarageBand on Your iPad By MacLife 13 February 2012 It’s time to plug a real instrument into GarageBand to see what it can do.
In iLife ’11, you don’t have to use a USB keyboard for MIDI input to GarageBand ’11 — any MIDI instrument or device can be connected by using an audio interface, which is a box that has many ports for connecting various types of audio equipment.
To use an audio interface with one or more MIDI devices, you must first install the software that comes with the interface. (Follow the manufacturer’s instructions.) You can then use Audio MIDI Setup (in Applications/Utilities) to select audio channel input and output devices for your Mac and control volume levels and other characteristics. Garageband Ipad Input Settings For Windows 7
so i want to hear myself play/practice with garageband and i purchased a pickup for my acoustic guitar for this purpose. it is a woody and has a cord attached to which i added an adapter to plug into my macbook pro as well as with amplitude ap. I do not have an interface setup so this sounded like an easy solution. When I try the connections i get good input but for the life of me cannot figure out how to set this up so i can actually hear myself thru the laptop. ive tried everything reccommended in the Garageband setup including selecting my instrument rather then electric guitar and playing with the output settings but nothing works. starting to think you need a sound engineering degree to figure this out. can anyone help?
